In northern Luzon, the province of Pangasinan celebrates the annual ‘Pista’y Dayat’, a week-long festivity (April 23 â€" May 3) in honor of the bountiful and abundant fishing and considered as the ‘mother of all festivals’ in the province. The historic Lingayen Gulf was where Japanese and US forces landed in Luzon during World War II and is famous for its diverse aquatic resources where one can get seafood for a lower price compared to prices in Metro Manila. For a post-festival journey Pangasinan has ample landmarks, landscapes and seascapes to satisfy any traveler. WHAT TO DO: · If you’re musically- inclined, Konserto de Gulpo is the event to be in. The concert has an environmental theme and is a good opportunity for young emerging bands to express their talent via an advocacy campaign. · Among the main attractions is the Grand Parade showcasing nine of the province’s best festivals: the Galicayo Festival of Manaoag, the Pandan Festival of Mapandan, the Alaminos Longganisa Festival, the Binmaley Sugpo Festival, the Mango and Bamboo Festival of San Carlos City, the Calasiao Puto Festival, the Binongey Festival of Anda, the Labrador’s Sawali Festival, and the grandest of all, Lingayen’s Pista’y Dayat. · Other activities include the Food and Garden Fairs, the Ating Yaman Photo Contest and Artscape, Tianggehan sa Pista’y Dayat, Limgas na Dayat Beauty Contest, amateur boxing bouts, Magpalipad Tayo Kite-Flying Competition, Capitolio Gimik, Ipahayag sa Layag Boat, Painting Competition and many more. Do’s and Don’ts · Pistay Dayat falls on a summer so bring a good pair of sunglasses, an umbrella or a hat and sunblock with sufficient SPF. · Always have clean bottled water to avoid heat stroke. A fully-stocked first aid kit can come in handy. · Avoid booking accommodations during the festival month because hotels and resorts charge rates twice as much; also avoid departing after the festival parade because traffic will be really bad.
