“Sangyaw” this means to herald news in the Waray language.
If Baguio has their Panagbenga Festival which they feature flowers on their parade, Bacolod with their Masskara Festival with colorful masks and costumes, Tacloban is proud to have the parade of lights to this year’s Sangyaw Festival 2012.
A modern way fiesta celebration was conceptualized by the city of Tacloban to present to everyone the Sangyaw Festival: Parade of Lights.
There will be twenty (20) procession floats made of Light-emitting Diodes (LED lights) that will hit the main streets of the city on the 29th of June at 3:00 in the afternoon, the Sangyaw Day! After the parade, performers will have their presentation at the Balyuan Ampitheater, Tacloban City.
Historical Floats will be on the front row of the parad
e. The first float will have the image of Tacloban’s Patron Saint, Sr. Sto. Niño de Tacloban. One float will showcase the flora and fauna of Tacloban City, while others will show the recent developments in the city.
This is a part of Tacloban’s fiesta celebration to give thanks, to show appreciation to our beloved Patron Saint, Sr. Sto. Niño de Tacloban.
This will surely mark a blissful occasion to a special event in Tacloban City.
The Sangyaw Festival is an annual event from 1974 to 1986. But then, it was in 2008 when the city of Tacloban revived the Sangyaw Festival.
