We usually hear birds chirping when we wake up in the morning. Roosters doing their cock-a-doodle-doos. But, hey, summer has officially ended! Rainy season is already here!

Goodbye, Sunshine! Hello, Rain! Summer is totally over in the Philippines. That idle feeling when you wake up in the morning and all you hear are raindrops from the rooftop. Well, undeniably, it’s the cold breeze that makes you want to be on your bed that you never want to get up! You just want to cuddle with the pillows around you. But, it shouldn’t be that way!

On rainy days like this, how can we even forget our Filipino miriendas? You got an idea of what I’m talking about? YES! YOU ARE DEFINITELY RIGHT! Banana meriendas. I may not be an expert in cooking, but the people who taste what I prepare, likes it so much! Most specially my Mama and Papa. J

Anyhow, I will be sharing to you different ways in preparing our all-time favorite BANANA.

1.      BANANA CUE.

Prepare the ff:

6 Banana (Saba type)

1 kilo Brown sugar

Half liter Cooking oil

BBQ sticks

Procedure:

Put the cooking oil that is at least 2-3 inches deep on the frying pan and heat it. While doing so, peel each banana and put it on a container. Next, once the oil becomes hot, put gently all your bananas. (NOTE: Be very extra careful!) Afterwards, for about three to five minutes put in your brown sugar. Upon doing this, you will observe that as you mix the sugar, it will get sticky. This is to blend the sugar and the banana. Then, after another three to four minutes, cut the fire and take off the bananas one by one. Lastly, skew the BBQ sticks to each banana. Place it in a serving dish and serve it!

2.      TURON (BANANA)

Prepare the ff:

6 Banana (Saba type)

1 kilo Brown sugar

Half liter Cooking oil

6 Lumpia wrappers

1 Egg

Procedure:

Peel each banana. Slice the banana into two pieces. Then, place the sliced banana onto the plate with sugar on it. After that, with the lumpia wrapper, place the sliced banana between the middle and the lower part of the wrapper. Once it is already placed, fold the wrapper to cover the banana. Then, you roll the wrapper with the banana until it reaches the space between the upper and the middle part. Make sure to leave space for the beaten egg to moisten the end part for it to be sealed. Repeat these steps with the remaining slices.

Afterwards, heat up the oil that is at least 2-3 inches deep on the frying pan and wait until it’s very hot. Fry it until it becomes crisp and golden. You can also add up the brown sugar and mix the sealed banana with it. It will taste even better! Take them off and put it on a container. Place it in a serving dish and serve it!

3.      BADUYA

Prepare the ff:

6 Banana (Saba type)

½ White sugar

Half liter Cooking oil

½ Flour

½ Baking Powder

2 Eggs

Milk (optional)

Water

Salt

Procedure:

In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, eggs, milk/water, and a pinch of salt until it becomes smooth. Adjust flour or water to reach a consistency the works for you.

Peel each banana. Slice it into at least, but make sure, to leave an inch unsliced. Now, you will observe that it already looks like a hand fan. Heat up the frying pan with the cooking oil that is at least 2-3 inches deep. Once it is very hot, slowly place the bananas one by one. Wait for a few minutes until it becomes crisp and golden. While waiting, you prepare a plate or bowl of white sugar. Then, after frying, place the fried banana onto the plate with the white sugar and turn it upside-down or roll it to take in the sugar. Place it in a serving dish and serve it!
