In the start of the rainy season ailments that affect the respiratory tract skyrocket. Colds, flu, cough and other ailments start to affect anyone who brave himself to walk in the rain without protection.Well,  wouldn’t it be nice to have something in your house that can cure and help fight these ailments?  What’s nicer is you can make one at home.



  Try salabat or ginger tea. It is a tea made from strips of ginger slowly boiled in water This process  fully extract its natural enzymes and aroma. You can add honey into it. The ginger gives a distinct aroma adding an exquisite taste to food when cooked. This distinct aroma is captured when you boil ginger making it as a tea beverage. Filipinos loved to drink ginger tea and it’s been used to cure minor illnesses like sore throat, colds, flu and some respiratory problems.



 



Here is a recipe on Salabat so you can make one at home:



GINGER TEA “SALABAT” RECIPE



Ingredients:
2-3 cups of water
½ lb or 8 to 10 thin slices of fresh ginger
½ cup of brown sugar or honey
Procedure:
Gently crushed the thin slices of ginger.
Simmer or boil ginger for about 30 minutes.
Adjust the strength of the tea by adding more ginger or more water depending on your preference.
Add the brown sugar or honey
Lessen your sugar content if you like it less sweet.
You can also add a teabag into the pot to add a different flavouring.
