After going to our backyard, my tatay (father) would always return with a lot of banana heart (blossom), our family business is selling banana fruits that’s why we have a lot of banana plants in our backyard. He would give it to nanay (mother) for her to cook it. Sometimes we get sick of eating the same recipe of banana blossom that my nanay would always prepare.

So we were surprised when nanay made a tortang (omelet) puso ng saging. Sounds new right? We are used of eating tortang talong for our breakfast, actually that’s my favorite, but that morning was different. Nanay prepared tortang puso ng saging instead, then she shared the secret of eating tortang talong-eating it with coffee. Hmmmmm…indeed, it really tastes good with coffee. I’m really happy that she made a twist with my favorite tortang talong.

Ingredient:

 2 tbsp oil

 1 pc onion chopped

 4 cloves garlic chopped

1 pc banana blossom long, washed and chopped and squeezed

 2 eggs beaten

 1 tbsp spring onions chopped

 3 tbsp oyster sauce

 Oil for frying

Directions:

1.      Heat oil, add garlic and onion then sauté and add banana blossom.
2. Sauté until banana is cooked.
3. Add oyster sauce then stir well.
4. Remove mixture in a bowl and add eggs, spring onions, mix it well.
5. In another pan, heat oil and put a tbsp mixture and fry until golden brown.

Looking for a new dish that will not hurt your budget? I’m telling you tortang puso ng saging is the answer for that, you can have it for snack or for breakfast. You can also serve it with chili sauce.
