The Young Hearts Media Kids is a group of children trained in basic media production to purposely allow them to express their views on issues that affect them.
The group’s evolution started in May 2008 when 100 12-17 years old children from Samar, Southern Leyte and Cebu provinces were trained in Media Literacy. Majority of them got no experience in handling even a simple digital camera.
The group underwent continuous mentoring sessions under professional trainers from Anak TV and Plan.
They participated in the Manila and Bangkok Festival that introduced them to the media world.
The group was also able to produce TV plugs which were aired nationally.
In April 2010, 125 new breed of children were added to the group.
The group’s advocacy mainly focuses on fighting or ending violence in schools.
“I will treasure this memory of learning how to use media in raising the awareness of the people on the situations of children” shares Mary Grace, 12 from Western Samar.
