It happened a year ago but the act she has done for the Philippine Flag remained in the hearts of the Filipino people.

 
Janela Lelis, a 12-year old pupil of Malinao, Albay showed his act of heroism and patriotism after saving the Philippine Flag in their elementary school at the height of the typhoon “Juaning” last August 2011. It was then said that Janela was only asked by her brother to get the flag and was just did only per instruction. However, many find this as an act of patriotism. 

Amidst the heavy rain, the knee-deep flood and the strong wind, she was there, holding the flag pole tightly in her hand, showing bravery and act of courage to save the national symbol of the country. It just shows how Filipinos, like Janela Lelis at a young age, gives respect and reverence to our national symbols. 

Indeed, what Janela did made me proud as a Filipino! We salute you, Janela!
