Carrying a sack of palay is not a big deal for Teodoro Rivera, even though he just turned 100 years old on May 26, 2011. That’s why during his centennial birthday celebration, a grand event was organized by his children. His six children (all male) were present with their families. His children were already professionals; some are educators while others are OFW’s. Lolo Teodoro’s wife passed away a few years ago. He has 16 grandkids and even though he has reached the oh-so-rare 3 digit age, he still goes strolling with them! Born on May 26, 1911 in Laoag City in the province of Ilocos Norte, Teodoro says he lived just like any other boy in their neighborhood, although most of his childhood friends have left this world already. He believed that his diet, eating vegetables (malunggay is his favorite!) everyday is the key for staying healthy even until now. He also prefers fish over meat, exercises regularly and his faith in God completes his secret of longevity. He also believes that anyone can reach over a hundred years of age, especially if he takes good care of his health early on. Teodoro looks forwards to staying healthy for more years ahead, and to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. with Grace Alba, ABS-CBN Laoag
